Benton Harbor Sunrise Rotary

Joseay DeVoir has earned the Ambassador Scholarship through Rotary. This young 24 year old has traveled extensively, working for volunteer organizations. His current project will take him back to the Dominion Republic. Extensive home repairs are needed in basic homes, that many individuals would never have the means to accomplish. Mr. DeVoir will be studying in England starting this September. His hope is to raise $10,000. In order to make repairs to 50 homes. Durring his last trip they were able to make repairs on 5 homes with a total of $650. We wish this young man well, and know that we made a good investment.

Benton Harbor Chess Club

May 10th. 2006 the chess club was able to realize a goal of reaching more students. The Berrien Community Foundation presented a check from Judge Butzbaugh. Rotary members were grateful for the generosity of the gift of a $1,000. Students are impacted by playing chess in many ways. We look forward to the new school year, and reaching students in other schools.

" Tod on the Streets"

Tod at our May 10th. meeting tries to explain the strength and vigor that is produced in man by eating the food from the All American Diner.

Students from our high schools

May 10th. 2006 at Rotary was a busy morning. Students from Both Benton Harbor and Saint Joseph High School formed an organization to further camaraderie between the two cities. A film produced by them was shown. The film demonstrated how students felt Martin Luther King impacted their lives. The students first met at a local Burger King to start their journey of understanding, which developed to a bond of friendship. All are off to integrated colleges, where their past experiences will help them understand cultural differences.

Rotary from Belize

Members from a Rotary in Belize visited us May 10th. They shared the culture from various parts of thier country. They also had some advise on race relations for the Saint Joseph and Benton Harbor students. "It is up to each individual to do their part, not to tolerate injustice.
